If we don’t build our entire fundraising strategy and philosophy on a solid Biblical foundation, may I suggest we will not find success in the Kingdom, and I think we risk serious burn out. Why do I think that? Because I’ve been there and done that.  While it was delivered to me with the best of intentions, my early fundraising training was called Biblical because it used this approach…

Pray at the start – Use great and aggressive sales techniques in the middle – Pray at the end.

I would like to humbly suggest that doesn’t cut it.  Plus for some personalities, driven, competitive, stubborn, they’ll take that formula and appear to make it work, because they will raise money. But I don’t think they will advance the Kingdom!

Just a quick reminder of what Paul tells us in Phil 4:17.

TRUTH #1 ‘For I seek not the gift, but the fruit that is added to your increase”. If I read that correctly we must build our foundation on this;

Effective, Biblical based fundraising is about advancing the Kingdom passion of the DONOR/PARTNER. With that mindset in place, we add two other substantial Biblical truths and now we have our foundation.

TRUTH #2 God Owns it All
TRUTH #3 God Supplies it All

When we trust and know that truth #2 and #3 are real, implementing the what’s, how’s, where, and when’s of truth #1 become possible. We are freed up to focus on the partner (donor).

P.S. July 12th’s tip: So how does our ministry passion fit into this equation?
